Am I legally protected even if I make a claim about unlawful acts happening in another country?
You are protected even if you are blowing the whistle on unlawful acts that took place overseas, or where the law applying to those acts is not UK law.
No-one's listening to my concerns at work: what next?
If you've tried to raise an issue internally but your employer ignores you and you feel that you must report your concerns, it is important that you speak to your UNISON rep immediately.
Your rep will help you to escalate your concerns, or even help you seek legal advice. How to contact your UNISON rep.
I am being treated unfairly for reporting unlawful acts at work. Is there anything I can do?
If you are being victimised or suffering from unfair treatment because of blowing the whistle you need to speak to your UNISON rep, who can help you decide what action to take.
This may involve bringing a claim in the employment tribunal. Strict time limits apply and so you should speak to your UNISON rep as soon as possible. Find out more about employment tribunals.
I've been dismissed for reporting unlawful acts at work. Is there anything I can do?
Yes, you can make a claim for unfair dismissal, even if you have been in the job for less than two years. Speak to your UNISON rep to find out what to do next.
You should do so as soon as possible, as strict time limits apply for making such a claim, generally three months less one day from the date of dismissal (generally speaking, three months exactly in Northern Ireland).
